About CommuniTelOur mission is save Australian families money by providing deeply discounted calling rates for international, long distance and mobile calls made from your home phone.To enable us to pass on bulk wholesale rates to our subscribers, we have introduced the concept of a sponsored telephone service. By participating in occasional marketing and market research activities, you will earn free credits toward your phone bill to be used in conjunction with our already discounted rates. This way, CommuniTel can offer you potential savings of up to 40% (and sometimes even more) off standard call charges compared to the rates charged by the big phone companies. For many families, the savings can equate to $75 or more off their quarterly phone bill. We are sure that you can find a better use for that money! How it worksWe are able to provide our deeply discounted rates by taking advantage of Telecommunications Competition laws introduced by the Australian Government in the 1990's. At that time, the Government directed the industry to introduce features known as override and preselect. Using these features, calls made from your home phone can be routed via the CommuniTel switch, enabling us to pass on the wholesale discounted rates that we get from the large phone companies.Please note that CommuniTel can NOT bill you for phone line rental. For this reason, CommuniTel subscribers must also remain a customer of their current telephone provider. Only calls placed through the CommuniTel network can be billed by us instead of your current provider. About Override and PreselectOverride is a mechanism that allows phone calls you make to be routed through an alternative telephone provider. This is achieved by prefixing the dialled number with a four-digit override code. The CommuniTel override code is 1428, so to route a call through the CommuniTel network, simply prefix the number with 1428.For example, to call the mobile number 0418-123-456 using CommuniTel, you would dial 1428-0418-123-456. It's that easy! When you use the CommuniTel override code, you will be billed by us instead of your current provider for the call. The benefit of override is that you can choose which calls to send through CommuniTel on a call-by-call basis. Preselect is a mechanism that allows long distance, international and calls to mobiles to be automatically routed through CommuniTel so you don't need to remember to prefix your calls with our override prefix each time you dial. Very convenient! Payment and BillingCommuniTel supports prepayment (like a pre-paid mobile) and post-paid accounts via a credit card debit authority.Prepaid accounts use call-credits purchased via a credit card, or even just credits earned through your participation in marketing activities. With a prepaid account, you can use your available call credit until your account is exhausted, at which time you will be invited to purchase more credit. It is possible to operate a prepaid account without purchasing call credits by relying solely on marketing credits earned! Postpaid account holders must complete our online credit card debit authority. After you complete the authority, we will send you an invoice on the first day of each calendar month for calls made during the previous month. We will then debit your card on or around the seventh day of the month. Please note: To keep our rates low for our customers, all bills for CommuniTel services will be issued electronically.
